What Are They?

Your teeth have ‘roots’ that are fused to the jawbone. If your tooth is damaged, the nerve within your root can become infected, this can lead to extreme pain and a swelling within the infected area.

The aim of the procedure is to painlessly remove the damaged pulp under local anaesthetic and remove any ingestion that may be present. Once the canals have been cleaned and shaped, they are filled with a special filling material. It is then advised that you crown the tooth to protect it and get good longevity.

This is the final stage to saving your natural tooth, the other alternative to this treatment is removal of your tooth.

What Will My Dentist Do?

• You will be booked in for a 45-60 minute appointment .
• Your dentist will numb the area prior to starting the treatment.
• Once the area is numb, the canals within the root are cleaned, shaped and filled with a special filling material.
• Root filled teeth generally become weak and your dentist will advise you to crown the tooth to increase the life span of the tooth
